The Leclerc Bergere is a small table loom perfectly suited to introduce a beginner weaver to the world of hand-weaving. While it is low cost and simple to operate, it enables the beginner to learn all the basic weaving concepts while they create beautiful material with matched colours and assortment of different yarns in the weft.
While the Rigid Heddle loom is designed to primarily weave plain weave fabric, as the weaver advances, they will find that the range of designs that can be woven with this loom are endless. With the help of a pick-up stick, it is also possible to make many different designs in the woven material. The loom can also be used to do small tapestry projects or wall hangings.
The Bergere Rigid Heddle Loom is ideal for younger weavers who want to learn weaving. The imagination and creativity shown by youngsters in designing with various colors and textures of weft is amazing and anything from material for clothing, placemats or even narrow bands to construct head and armbands are possible.
Like the larger Leclerc floor and table looms, the Bergere is designed with both a warp and a cloth beam that enable the weaver to wind on many yards of fabric with a finished width of up to 24 inches (60cm). Crank handles on the side allow he cloth to be advanced as the weaving progresses. Both beams have ratchet mechanisms to allow the weaver to apply a high degree of tension to the warp. A rigid heddle is included through which the warp travels. By positioning this rigid heddle higher or lower than the path of the warp threads, the weaver can create a shed wide enough to pass a boat or stick shuttle through with the weft yarn. The rigid heddle or the flat shuttle can then be used to evenly beat the weft into place.
