The Kebec II, the largest handloom currently on the market, provides the weaver with the ability to weave fabric up to an amazing 14 feet wide! It is a four shaft Counterbalance design that is excellent for weaving anything from Coverlets to Table Cloths to Draperies to Large Rugs. Like all Leclerc products, this massive loom is solidly constructed out of Canadian Maple hardwood with parts of the frame 1 1/2 by 4 inches thick!
The Kebec II is equiped with floating lams (see picture at bottom) meaning that neither end are affixed to the loom frame. This makes threading easier for the weaver. The loom comes with two sets of treadles allowing two weavers to work together alternately throwing or receiving the shuttle. Regardless of which weaver operates the treadles, the tension across the shafts remains uniform and a perfect shed is formed from one side of the loom to the other. With the optional Flying Shuttle Beater installed a single set of treadles in the center can be installed and the loom can be operated by one weaver.
Three versions of the loom are available with weaving widths of 100 inches, 120 inches and new for 2001, a 168 inch version. The midrange 120 inch loom equipped with a Flying Shuttle Beater is shown below.

The Kebec II Loom is constructed with a number of unique features that allow it to maintain a high degree of tension on such a wide warp yet allows for a perfect shed.
Rather than fixed breast beams, the Kebec II is constructed using heavy duty 5 inch diameter solid maple rollers that ensure the cloth and warp threads travel friction free across the beams. The beater bar has a central handle to make it easy for a single weaver to grab and pull it. The loom is built with 2 very large friction brakes (using 1/4 inch diameter steel cables) at either end of the warp beam and a set of heavy duty steel ratchet mechanisms at either end of the cloth beam to allow very high tensions to be applied to the warp from either end.
While the Kebec II is a heavy duty workhorse loom, it's natural hardwood construction makes it a beautiful piece of weaving equipment and explains why it has been purchased by many weaving guilds as a shared resource for their weavers.
